Malaysia’s major step in energy management

Shafaqna English- Malaysia has officially extended its 10-year blueprint for advancing energy efficiency, a move that was finalized on Tuesday(11 Aug 2026), with the plan setting its sights on delivering cumulative economic savings in the vicinity of $21.5 billion through more prudent and optimized energy consumption across key sectors of the economy.

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation confirmed in a statement that the revitalized National Energy Efficiency Action Plan will remain in force until 2035, setting an ambitious goal of curbing energy demand by 11.6%, a target that underscores the government’s determination to decouple economic growth from rising energy consumption while enhancing overall efficiency.

According to the statement, the initiative would result in total energy savings of 815,382 terajoules when measured against conventional projections, which corresponds to a decrease of 26.1 million metric tons in carbon dioxide-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions.
