Wall Street kicked off with cautious optimism

Shafaqna English- At the opening bell on Tuesday(11 Aug 2026), both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite registered gains, reflecting a wave of investor optimism. This positive sentiment was largely fueled by a media report indicating that the United States and Iran had made significant progress toward reaching “some form of an agreement” aimed at bringing an end to their six‑month‑long military and political standoff.

The prospect of a diplomatic breakthrough appeared to ease geopolitical concerns that had previously weighed on equity markets.

As the markets opened on Tuesday, the performance of Wall Street’s three main gauges was anything but uniform. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged into negative territory, shedding 14.4 points—a fractional loss of 0.03%—which left it at 53,961.6.

By contrast, both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq finished their opening moves in positive territory, with the former adding 14.4 points (up 0.19% to 7,767.51) and the latter climbing 66.8 points (a 0.25% advance to 26,672.175), highlighting how the tech sector appeared to be the primary beneficiary of the day’s cautiously optimistic sentiment.
