Shafaqna English– Local authorities in western Germany reported on Friday(14 Aug 2026) that a wildfire close to the Belgian frontier had expanded toward a village, triggering the evacuation of over 2,000 people from their residences. The advancing fire front left officials with little choice but to issue a mandatory evacuation order as a precautionary measure against the growing threat.
The local government issued a statement confirming that residents of Gey were ordered to leave their houses around 4:00 a.m. (0200 GMT). Evacuees were then directed to a relief center that had been organized at a primary school in a nearby settlement, where they could receive temporary shelter and assistance during the ongoing emergency.
