Shafaqna English– Saudi Arabia has two cities that sit near each other but date back to very different ages. Together, they offer a wide view of human history over thousands of years.
Khaybar is a green oasis in the middle of black volcanic rock. It has kept many prehistoric secrets safe. The mysterious stone structures and archaeological mustatils found there tell us that humans settled in this area in a time before anyone knew how to write.
Mahd al-Dhahab is not far from Khaybar in either location or history. It was a busy mining center for gold and other precious metals in the early Islamic era. Its hills were once filled with miners at work. The Darb Zubaydah route, a famous pilgrimage road, also ran through this region, carrying travelers and pilgrims. The inscriptions and stations they left behind show a mix of religious faith and economic life.
