Shafaqna English– By Sunday(16 Aug 2026) afternoon, the number of utility customers still affected by power cuts across Hawaii exceeded 180,000. The widespread outages followed the passage of Hurricane Lala, which skimmed the Big Island before being downgraded to a tropical storm.
Data showed that approximately 183,000 customers remained without electricity across Hawaii at 3:30 PM local time on Sunday. On Oahu, which is home to the largest population, the number of outages had already decreased from more than 220,000 to about 130,000 by Sunday morning, according to statements made by state officials during a press conference.
