Renaissance artworks stolen in Sicily

Shafaqna English– Four valuable artworks created by Antonello da Messina, a renowned painter of the 15th century, have been stolen from a museum situated in the artist’s Sicilian birthplace. Local authorities have expressed deep sorrow over the incident, with one council member referring to the theft as a devastating “blow to the heart” for the region’s cultural identity.

The theft has stripped Messina of portions of the sole remaining work by this Renaissance artist that had stayed in his native city. Additionally, a small painting acquired by the Sicilian region two decades ago was also taken, further deepening the cultural loss.
