Shafaqna English– Despite the fact that the Ebola outbreak has not only surpassed existing containment capabilities but has also escalated to become the second-most lethal epidemic of its kind on record, a WHO official expressed confidence on Tuesday(18 Aug 2026) that public health interventions could still turn the tide.
The official stressed that with intensified surveillance, community engagement, and vaccination campaigns, the outbreak could be brought under control before it spirals further.
The WHO had initially expressed optimism at the beginning of the month, setting a three-month timeline for containing the Ebola outbreak.
Yet, in the weeks since that announcement, the situation has demonstrably deteriorated, with the virus claiming a larger geographical footprint and entering a sixth province—a worrying sign that the epidemic is gaining ground despite the international community’s mobilization efforts.
