Shafaqna English– Nick Kyrgios, a former Wimbledon runner‑up, was handed a provisional suspension from tennis on Wednesday(19 Aug 2026) after a positive test for cocaine. The often unpredictable Australian acknowledged his “huge mistake” in a public statement of apology.
According to the ITIA, the 31‑year‑old player’s provisional ban came after a urine sample taken at the June ATP 250 event in Mallorca tested positive for benzoylecgonine, which is a primary metabolite of cocaine. The agency acted swiftly upon receiving the laboratory results.
