Shafaqna English– Gold prices experienced a modest uptick during Friday’s(21 Aug 2026) trading session, positioning the precious metal for its third successive weekly advance, buoyed by a combination of two key supportive factors: the ongoing weakness in the US dollar and the Treasury Department’s recently announced bond-repurchase program, which together reinforced gold’s appeal as a hedge against currency depreciation and policy-driven market distortions.
By 02:54 GMT, spot gold had advanced by half a percentage point to reach $4,540.18 per ounce, following a previous session in which it had touched its most elevated valuation since the early days of June; the metal has now appreciated by 3.6% over the course of the current trading week, while US gold futures concurrently climbed 0.6% to settle at $4,596.60.
