Shafaqna English- Pakistan is seeking to expand its presence in the global halal economy, with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb urging businesses to target specific products, sectors and markets where the country can compete internationally, according to Arab News.
Aurangzeb made the call during a meeting with Shaikh Yousef Hassan Khalawi, secretary-general of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), an organization affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that represents private-sector interests across 57 Islamic countries.
The finance minister said Pakistan should move beyond a broad focus on the halal sector and identify concrete opportunities for exports and business expansion through the ICCD’s international platforms.
The discussions covered opportunities across halal food, fashion, tourism, services and other consumer markets, as well as ways to strengthen Pakistan’s Islamic finance ecosystem.
Khalawi briefed Aurangzeb on the ICCD’s growing engagement with business communities both within and outside OIC member states, emphasizing efforts to connect Muslim businesses with international private-sector and institutional partners.
Pakistan is also seeking greater cooperation with global platforms in Islamic economics and finance as it looks to strengthen its participation in the rapidly expanding global halal economy.
