Shafaqna English– The razing of a modernist arts complex in Tbilisi has provoked sharp reactions from citizens concerned about the city’s future skyline, as well as from the Italian architects who designed the building. Many view this move as a threat to the city’s modern architectural heritage.
This complex, popularly known among locals as the “Rike Tubes,” comprises a music theatre and an exhibition hall located in Rike Park. Its construction took place between 2011 and 2012 during the presidency of Mikheil Saakashvili, a reformist and pro-Western politician.
