Shafaqna English- Nigeria is targeting more than $12 billion in investment as it seeks to capture a larger share of the $7 trillion global halal economy, shifting from a consumer of halal products to a major producer and exporter, according to the Guardian.
Vice President Kashim Shettima said the government’s strategy covers sectors including finance, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, logistics, manufacturing and digital commerce, alongside food and beverages.
The Nigeria Halal Economy Strategy Implementation Committee, inaugurated in March 2026, has organised the national plan into 13 delivery clusters. The government is also developing a national halal mark and an accreditation and verification platform.
Officials stressed that private-sector investment, local processing, certification and traceability will be crucial to turning Nigeria’s agricultural and manufacturing resources into higher-value exports.
The government is also pursuing partnerships with institutions including the Islamic Development Bank, BADEA and the D8 Halal Forum, while states including Osun, Katsina and Kano have expressed interest in adopting the strategy.
