Typhoon Dolphin, which currently holds the distinction of being the most powerful tropical cyclone to affect Chinese territory in the current annual storm season, has undergone substantial weakening over the course of its lengthy 6,000‑km journey across the western Pacific and the East China Sea.
Despite this significant reduction in wind speed and central pressure, however, the cyclone’s residual moisture plume remains remarkably intact and continues to advect vast quantities of tropical‑origin water vapor hundreds of kilometres inland, effectively transforming the region into a high‑risk flood zone where both flash floods and riverine overflow are becoming increasingly probable.
