Shafaqna English- At least 44 Muslims have been killed in hate crimes in India since the beginning of 2026, putting the year on track to become the deadliest since documentation began in 2022, according to a recent report titled “India Persecution Tracker-2026,” released by the South Asia Justice Campaign (SJAC).
The findings highlight the increasing pressures faced by India’s Muslim minority from both state actions and Hindu extremist groups. The report documents incidents of killings, arrests, detention, custodial abuse, demolitions, forced expulsions, and restrictions impacting the religious and political rights of Muslims, particularly in states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
