Shafaqna English– According to high-ranking officials familiar with the matter, the major regional powers of world football are weighing the possibility of calling a vote of no confidence aimed at ousting FIFA President Gianni Infantino, whose plan to sell a share of the World Cup to private equity investors has infuriated them and triggered serious discussions about his leadership.
Those familiar with the discussions disclosed that the European confederation UEFA, Asia’s AFC, and CONCACAF are all giving serious consideration to this move; however, a painstaking review of FIFA’s 122-year history by Reuters has shown that the organization’s Congress has never before held a vote of no confidence in a sitting president, making any such action entirely unprecedented.
