Inflation alert from Fed policymakers

Shafaqna English– As central bankers convened in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for the Kansas City Fed’s prestigious annual economic symposium—an event that commands the close attention of global financial markets—three Federal Reserve policymakers used the occasion on Thursday(27 Aug 2026) to voice their ongoing disquiet about the inflation picture in the United States.

Their collective message underscored that the battle against rising prices remains far from resolved, even as the broader economic landscape shows mixed signals.

In an interview with CNBC conducted on the periphery of the Jackson Hole conference, Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid offered a candid assessment of the inflation challenge, characterizing it as “still stubborn and still sticky.”

He emphasized that policymakers must persist in their efforts to “find ways to break through” this persistent price pressure and ultimately steer inflation back down to the central bank’s declared 2% objective. Schmid’s language conveyed a sense of urgency and determination, acknowledging that conventional policy tools have so far failed to fully dislodge inflationary inertia from the economy.
