Algeria-Niger oil cooperation

Shafaqna English– Algeria’s national oil and gas giant, Sonatrach, revealed on Saturday(15 Aug 2026) that it has commenced the first-ever shipments of Jet A1 fuel to Niger, with the product originating from its Adrar refinery, known operationally as RA1D. This marks the beginning of a new cross-border energy supply chain between the two North and West African nations.

According to an official statement released by Sonatrach, this new supply arrangement represents a concrete step toward fulfilling the terms of a bilateral commercial contract that was previously formalized with Niger’s state-owned petroleum entity, SONIDEP. The agreement, which encompasses both sale and purchase provisions, is now entering its operational phase through these inaugural deliveries.

In its official communication, Sonatrach emphasized that the transfer of jet fuel to Niger serves as a clear demonstration of its broader strategic commitment to strengthening direct bilateral partnerships with other African energy firms operating across the continent’s oil and gas sectors.
