Shafaqna English- Henry Corbin was a French philosopher, Shia Scholar and Iranologist. He has been called the most prominent Western interpreter of Iran’s spiritual wisdom and Shia philosophy of this land.
Corbin, who started his studies in European and Christian philosophies, became interested in Islamic wisdom and philosophy, especially Iranian Shia philosophy, through familiarity with Illuminationism.
The first meeting between Allamah Tabatabai (RA) and Henry Corbin occurred at the end of 1958 and the second meeting occurred in September 1959 in Tehran. Corbin had told Allamah Tabatabai (RA) that he had held a conference in Geneva about Imam Mahdi (AJ) from the Shia viewpoint, which had been welcomed by Western scientists present at the meeting. He had continued that, in his opinion, the Shia Islam is the only religion that has solidified the relationship between human being and the divine guidance and the connection between human being and God and perpetuates this association via “guardianship”.
Then, Allamah Tabatabai (RA) had also told that the issue of existence of God Almighty is a joint issue in all religions, but on the matter of human way of life, the religion will be immortalized that has left a special means to continue this link and relationship besides maintaining the belief in divinity and prophecy, and belief in the other world, resurrection, to continue this truth. It is undoubtedly the issue of “guardianship” that has specifically been considered in Shia Islam, resorting to which guarantees worldly and otherworldly happiness of human being.
