Shafaqna English- US Representative Rashida Tlaib condemned an Islamophobic march targeting the Muslim community in Dearborn, Michigan.
Tlaib, who is a muslim and has Palestinian roots, represents Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, said in a statement that the march was aimed at “terrorizing” the city’s Muslim community and condemned what she described as an atmosphere of hatred and bigotry.
“Dearborn is a beautifully diverse place, home to a vibrant, loving Muslim community, and our families do not deserve to be subjected to such hate and bigotry,” Tlaib said in a statement issued on his website.
She said some residents had been advised to remain at home for safety reasons, affecting their ability to carry out daily activities such as shopping for school supplies, buying groceries or simply going outside.
“To all our Dearborn families and residents: I have your back,” Tlaib said, adding that members of the interfaith community who stood in solidarity with their Muslim neighbors were helping counter hatred with “love and compassion.”
The muslim congresswoman also called on more political leaders, including local elected officials, to publicly oppose what she described as the spread of hatred “under the guise of faith.”
