Shafaqna English– Authorities confirmed on Sunday(30 Aug 2026) that the catastrophic flooding across Nepal and Tibet has resulted in a confirmed death toll of 750, alongside a staggering 3,044 people still listed as missing.
Meanwhile, rescue personnel have been ordered to retreat to safer, higher-altitude locations, as continuous rain has pushed river waters to precarious levels, threatening to inundate low-lying areas where search operations were initially concentrated.
Since Friday(28 Aug 2026), search-and-rescue missions have faced repeated suspensions, attributed not only to deteriorating weather conditions but also to growing alarm over a newly formed glacial lake along the Nepal-China frontier.
This lake, which was created by a massive mudslide following Wednesday’s glacier collapse, has already started spilling over into Nepalese river systems, raising grave fears that a secondary wave of catastrophic flooding could be imminent.
