New way to combat diabetes

Shafaqna English- New Study Reveals a Sweet Surprise: Daily Mango Consumption May Combat Diabetes Risk.

In a finding that challenges conventional dietary wisdom, new research suggests that eating mangoes daily may significantly improve blood sugar control and body composition in adults with prediabetes. The study, conducted at George Mason University, turns the spotlight on how the source of sugar matters more than the quantity alone.

Over a six-month period, researchers split participants into two groups. One group consumed a fresh mango daily, containing 32 grams of natural sugar, while the other ate a low-sugar granola bar with only 11 grams of sugar. Surprisingly, the mango group demonstrated better outcomes, including improved insulin sensitivity and reduced body fat.

Lead Researcher Raedeh Basiri, a registered dietitian, emphasized the importance of whole foods. “It is not just the sugar content that matters, but the overall food context,” she stated. The natural sugars in mangoes are packaged with fiber and essential nutrients, which appear to offer metabolic benefits that processed low-sugar snacks lack.

The study, published in the journal Foods, provides a powerful message for the nearly 100 million American adults with prediabetes. It suggests that incorporating whole fruits like mangoes into daily diets could be a simple and effective strategy for diabetes prevention, moving the focus beyond mere sugar content to overall food quality.
