Shafaqna English- On Monday(6 Jul 2026), FIFA President Gianni Infantino came to the defense of world soccer’s disciplinary procedures, as international criticism continued to mount—especially after U.S. President Donald Trump praised FIFA’s choice to overturn Folarin Balogun’s World Cup red-card suspension.
Infantino emphasized that FIFA’s judicial organs function “independently and autonomously,” and added that he had advised Trump that the Balogun matter was still part of an active legal proceeding—despite the fact that Trump, after personally pressing FIFA for a review, had branded the reinstatement of the U.S. forward as “brilliant.”
