Shafaqna English– The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported, in its latest official statement, that the death toll from Saturday’s(15 Aug 2026) powerful 7.7‑magnitude earthquake – which originated off eastern Indonesia and was followed by dozens of tremors – has risen to no fewer than 47 people.
Local authorities have confirmed that rescue teams remain unable to reach Nagekeo, the district nearest to the quake’s epicentre, as landslides have blocked all overland routes and disrupted communication systems, thereby hampering any immediate relief efforts.
